Terre Di San Vito is so very proud that we have ‘Organic’ status for our grapes, olives and extra virgin olive oil.
Italy presents a success story in organic fruit and vegetable production, taking advantage of favourable climate and agronomic conditions and close geographic access to major markets.
Organic farming growth in Italy is rapid and the domestic organic market is taking off. Since 1998, Italy is the European country with the largest area farmed organically as well as with the highest number of organic farms. The Italian organic sector has exhibited one of the largest average annual growth rates in Europe in the past years: the certified organic and in-conversion utilized agricultural area (UAA) has increased from about 5 000 hectares in 1985 to some 960 000 hectares in 1999, almost 200 times as much. Terre Di San Vito contribute to these statistics.
Italy follows the basic EC Regulation on organic food products (EC Regulation n.2092/91) and the organic food certification system is based on the EU legislation and is supervised by the national authorities.
Our certification was issued through specific compliance following the guidelines, requirements and regulations set out by the Government Inspection Bodies for Ministry of Forestry and Agriculture.
We adhere to the "organic" certification and have had the "bio" or "organic" certification since 2017.
This certification is for our rich and fertile soil. It includes the cultivation of grapes, olives, vegetables, fruits and melons, roots and tubers.
The food grown and processed on the Terre Di San Vito land uses no synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. Our pesticides are derived from natural sources (such as biological pesticides).
