INGREDIENTS
- 90ml ounces rum
- 30ml Il Vescovo red wine
- 1 teaspoon simple syrup
- 1/2 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice
INTRODUCTION
This is a delicious and very grown up cocktail. The Bishop had to be on our list of drinks – especially as our flagship wine goes by the same name: Il Vescovo!
There are many red wine cocktails but this one has the flavoursome rum which elevates it to more than just a wine punch or type of sangria. The rum in this Cuban cocktail takes the drink from a dressed-up glass of wine into the cocktail world. It's a simple little change but an important one because the rum adds depth to the flavour.
The bishop is a classic cocktail that comes from the 1935 printing of "The Old Waldorf-Astoria Bar Book" by A.S. Crockett. The famous bartending guide actually includes two versions, one for a single serving and one for a punch recipe so you have the choice!Our Il Vescovo red wine is perfect for this cocktail.
METHOD
Preparing the cocktail
- Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Give it a good shake.
- Strain into a chilled red wine glass.
