The New York Sour (serves 1)
What a drink! First you have the whiskey sour layer – sweetened with syrup. Then you float a layer of red wine over the top and it adds intrigue, complexity and a fruity acidity. Not to mention it looks simply stunning with the bright two-toned layer. Even better: it’s easy to make! Here’s how it’s done – you must try it!
Ingredients:
2 fl oz bourbon or rye whiskey
1 fl oz fresh lemon juice
½ fl oz plain syrup or maple syrup
1 fl oz Il Vescovo Black Label
1 cup of ice
Preparing the cocktail:
Combine the rye or bourbon whiskey, fresh lemon juice and syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Cover, and shake until outside of shaker is frosty, about 30 seconds.
Strain into a rocks glass with fresh ice.
Here’s the fun part: Gently pour 1 fl oz ounce Terre Di San Vito’s Il Vescovo Black Label over the back of a spoon held just above the drink's surface so the wine floats on top. Because it hits the spoon first, it will settle into a layer on the top!
Salute!
