Our uncle Franco had added a small chapel on our land and had invited Bishop Domenico Padovano from the town of \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.beautifulpuglia.com\/conversano-puglia\/\"\u003eConversano\u003c\/a\u003e to undertake the mass. We thought we were ready but at the last minute we realised we were missing the wine! Not something we were short of! So, Bishop Domenico used our wine - in the bottle – no label, no name! He absolutely adored it and after using it for the consecration ceremony, he happily went away with a few samples! Greeks from Sparta begin to arrive in Puglia during the 8th century BC. Apeneste or Apameste comes from the Greek apanístemi to mean \"I rise\", \"I am born\". The area was also invaded by the Spanish and Turkish Empires and was an important shipping port. When planting and cultivating the land and because of its vicinity to the sea and ports, we found ancient fishing spears and forks.
